Emergency Action for Poisoning


In an emergency, If the poisoned or envenomed person has collapsed or is not breathing call for first aid advice.


Do not wait for symptoms to appear because reactions may be delayed.
Immediately call to the poisons information centre at 1800-425-1213 (Toll free number) available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, across India.

First Aid Advice


  • SnakesOpen or Close

    If snake bite occurs, keep in mind the following DOs:

    • • Remove them from further danger
    • • Keep them still
    • • Immobilize the person completely.Splint the limb to keep it still.Use a makeshift stretcher to carry the person to a place where the transport is available to take them to a health care facility.
    • • Never use a tight tourniquet.

  • If the poison is SWALLOWEDOpen or Close
    • • Do NOT try to induce vomiting

  • If the poison enters the EYEOpen or Close
    • • Flood the eye with cool water from a running tap or a cup/jug

  • If the poison contacts the SKINOpen or Close
    • • Remove contaminated clothing

    • • Immediately get the person to fresh air
    • • If it is safe to do so, open doors and windows wide
